About New Key Realty

New Key Realty, Real Estate Agents in Montgomery, Alabama

New Key Realty is a Montgomery real estate and property management company built on local roots and straight answers. It's owned and run by Freddy Odom, a Montgomery native who has lived in the River Region for more than 38 years and spent over a decade helping families across Montgomery, Prattville, Wetumpka, and the surrounding area buy homes, sell homes, and manage rental property.

Freddy started in real estate in 2013, earned his broker license, and opened New Key Realty in 2019. The name carries a meaning he takes seriously: buyers get a new key to a new chapter, and sellers trade an old key for the next one. Give him a call and you'll see the difference a real local agent makes.

How It Started

A Career Built Around Family and Home

Freddy got into real estate when he was getting married and ready for a change. Real estate and property management gave him a way to build the life he wanted, support his family, and help other families feel the joy of owning a home of their own. That motivation hasn't changed in over a decade.

He started at a larger brokerage in 2013 and worked his way up until he was ready to run his own shop. In 2019, he took the broker exam, passed it, and opened New Key Realty a month later. He's been the owner, broker, and property manager ever since.

"I named the company New Key Realty because in most cases buyers are receiving a new key to their new life as a homeowner. And sellers are trading in their old key for a new one in another location."

Along the way, he found he genuinely enjoys the investor side of the business too. Helping owners maximize the return on their properties taught him a great deal about investing and the tax advantages that come with it, knowledge he now passes along to clients buying their first rental or building out a portfolio. Above all, he likes being a useful member of the River Region, the kind of person neighbors call for honest advice whether or not there's a commission attached.

Local Knowledge

He Knows This Area Because He's From Here

Freddy grew up in Montgomery and graduated high school here in 1991. He's lived in the River Region for over 38 years and currently calls Elmore County home. That's not a marketing line, it's the reason he can answer the questions that actually matter when you're buying or selling.

A local agent makes sure you're treated as a valued client whose safety and security come first, not as a number in a national database. Here's the kind of thing he can speak to firsthand:

  • School zones
  • Neighborhood by neighborhood
  • Entertainment and eateries
  • Investment opportunities

Where Freddy Works

Three counties across central Alabama, all within the River Region he's called home his whole life.

How He Works

What Sets Freddy Apart

Plenty of agents say they care. Here's what Freddy actually does, in his own words.

He Returns Every Call

The most common complaint people have about agents is that they never call back. It frustrates Freddy to no end. Everyone deserves a returned phone call, regardless of their situation and whether or not it ends in a sale for him.

He Does the Extra Work

Freddy takes on responsibilities most agents won't, all to get a buyer or seller to the closing table. That has meant organizing repairs, verifying they were actually done, and on more than one occasion, helping clients move.

Just Facts, No Shenanigans

The first time you talk to Freddy, you'll get knowledgeable advice delivered with a kind approach. He's happy to help you make the right choice for your situation even when he doesn't stand to benefit from it.

Easy Going and Attentive

Ask his past clients how he is to work with and that's the phrase that comes back: easy going and attentive to their needs. He keeps the process calm and stays on top of the details so you don't have to.

Proof in Practice

The Deal Everyone Else Gave Up On

One transaction had been written off as dead by the agent who came before Freddy. A seller had already turned down an aggressive offer and dug in. Most people would have walked away.

Freddy did his homework instead. He repackaged the offer and took the time to walk the combative seller through why it was a stronger deal than it looked on the surface. The seller came around, and the sale closed.

"He thanked me at the closing table for helping him understand that it was a better deal than he thought."

Over his career, Freddy has sold more than 150 homes with an average sale price ranging from $45,000 to $429,000, and he currently manages around 30 residential and commercial units. Before the pandemic, that number ran as high as 60 units in a year. The point isn't the figures. It's that he treats every deal, large or small, like it's worth fighting for.

Why Freddy Does Property Management Too

Most agents only sell houses. Freddy manages them as well, and there's a reason for it.

Managing rental property broadens his understanding of real estate by letting him see it through an investor's eyes. He knows what owners want and need because he handles those decisions every day, and it makes him a sharper agent on the sales side too.

He works with all kinds of owners: local landlords, investors from out of the area, military families who got transferred and held onto a home. Whatever the situation, his aim is to make the experience as free of hassle as possible. He takes the headaches of managing a property off the owner's plate and puts them on his own, with one goal driving it: getting the owner the strongest return on their investment.
